Project shift...
As ever, projects such as this are at the mercy of various pressures. One of these is the general uncertainty of life, and right now this is very true. I may be moving the family to the other side of the world in search of a better work life balance and so if this is the case, the project moves with us.
This is not as bad as it would first appear as Sailing would become an every day things as we actually contemplate the reality of living by the ocean, making the project even more real than it currently ever could be.
So... while we push ahead with the paper chase and logistics of moving to New Zealand, I get to dream of bringing the project ever closer!

Sailing in NZSo what do I know about sailing in New Zealand/. Well other than the obvious - Sailing in the Blood - America Cup holders etc. I don't know that much. Its obviously tidal and has some of the most iconic areas to sail in, but which areas? This site is great for a flavour of what it has to offer New Zealand Overview.
That said I am finding to hard to find websites that offer an insight into sailing that can be done in and around the North Island, which I find very hard to believe! So currently I'm trawling the web looking for information to help me with this. As I find things I'll post it here. |
Boat buying in NZMoving abroad isn't cheap so the budget will have to spend on a cruiser will be greatly reduced. This means we will have to shift from the Micro cruiser budget to the Nano budget cruiser, maybe even starting with the pico boat first?
But as this is the city of sails there has to be a boat out there for us somewhere. So it looks like its the NZs favourite, trademe.co.nz website that I would use to find a suitable yacht. This now needs to be something like a Hunter 18 or Leisure 17 for about $1000 - $2000 (£500-£1000 approx) But first I need to revisit the budget and investigate just how much it will cost me to rebuild a boat in NZ. What would the trip be in New Zealand?
So the original idea was to sail along the West coast of Scotland once the boat was ready and take in some of the wild walks and climbs that are available.
So with a blank piece of paper in an amazing location such as New Zealand, what could I do? Well the North Island and its Bay of Island is where I intend to cut my teath. But I feel a circumnavigation of the North Island could be the main push of the Project, should we find ourselves there ;o)
